Cancer Is Everywhere In Our Country

In the past 24 hours, I’ve spoken with three people who indicated someone close to them has cancer. And one of my heroes (pun intended) passed away from cancer at 69.

We have an epidemic here Folks! It is painfully obvious why so many have cancer:

  1. The water, air and soil is polluted
  2. The food we eat is not local, not fresh, and is tainted with pesticides, chemicals, and some of it is genetically modified, including the majority of all wheat, soy and corn.
  3. We spend way too much time on our phones, computers, and in front of our televisions, on airplanes, and in front of microwave ovens, near high tension wires, and police radar.
  4. We spend far too little quality time in nature, and with animals and loved ones.
  5. We are worried about our financial well-being, as big banks and government continue their assault on the middle class.
  6. We are worried about our physical well-being, as veterans, radical muslims, and drug-addicted people swamp our social welfare programs’ ability to assist them and prevent violence.

We must repent! It will take a lot to do this, but it starts with some pretty big steps, such as:

  • Voting Bernie Sanders as our next President (I’m just saying, he is the ONLY one who would absolutely attack the big banks, and stop the war machine.
  • Kill GMOs, pesticides and factory farms, by buying only organic foods, and fighting Monsanto and others.
  • Take care of our bodies and our children with better diet and lifestyle habits.

Stress is the biggest killer, and cause of cancer. But we cannot just sing Kumbuya. We need to make real changes first. Are you with me?

Easing Bipolar Disorder With Nature

Life has its ups and downs, but for you, the roller coaster is a daily occurrence, and hardly ever as enjoyable as a visit to the amusement park. Unfortunately, medicine is rarely a good answer.

Like most diseases, Bipolar Disorder is nothing more than your body’s reaction to poor diet and lifestyle choices. When you eat regular, whole, balanced, plant-based meals, and get enough sleep, exercise and body care, you will NEVER experience the ups and downs of B.D., because you will be experiencing good health instead.

So what can you do? You need support to make any changes in life, and you may need to back away from any large commitments, such as school, work, relationships, etc. while you improve your diet and lifestyle habits. But what are those changes?

Top Ten Changes To Relieve Bipolar Disorder

  1. Avoid dairy desserts, candy, raw fruit, fruit juice, soda, coffee, tea, alcohol and drugs
  2. Avoid white bread, pastries, and pasta
  3. Avoid missing meals, snack and fast foods, chewing gum and diet products
  4. Eat boiled short grain brown rice as well as millet, oats, barley, quinoa, buckwheat
  5. Eat sea vegetables, beans, mushrooms, nuts and seeds
  6. Blanch or press salads, and buy organic greens, fruit, dairy and meats
  7. Get 8 hours of sleep every night. Go to sleep by 11pm and rise by 7am
  8. Go to a chiropractor monthly, and get a shiatsu or reflexology appt. quarterly
  9. Walk in the woods every day for :15-:30, and preferably lie down and be grateful
  10. Do a daily body rub and shower every day

Some of these ideas may be foreign to you. See our links and recipes and resources for more information. Also visit your nearest Whole Foods and Google Macrobiotics.

If you must eat a restaurant meal, order carefully and choose Japanese, Thai or Vegetarian joints. Order low salt and low sugar meals, and avoid oily foods, colors and desserts.

Winter Squash Recipes and Benefits

winter-squash

Winter squash is great. Here’s why:

  1. Squash is great for keeping you warm in the winter
  2. Squash is sweet but is very good for you
  3. Squash tastes great in soups, bakes, mashes, stir fries, pies, even jello!
  4. Squash is inexpensive and lasts
  5. Squash seeds are AMAZING when you dry/toast with some spices

Here are three great recipes:

1. Squash Miso Soup

Peel a butternut squash, and chop into a 10 or so cubes. Save the seeds for toasting! Place 4 cups spring water and a few flecks of wakame, arame or dulse seaweed in a large pot. Soak 1-2 dried shiitake mushrooms separately to add after blending. Add squash and bring to a boil. Add one small yellow onion quartered, and simmer covered for :15, then use 1/4 cup of the broth and a few teaspoons cold water to make a miso paste with 3 teaspoons of barley miso. Blend the soup (immersion blenders are easier, holiday gift if you don’t own one!), and add the mushrooms and a small handful of parsley and dill, or other herbs (sage, clove and turmeric are nice). Simmer for five more minutes. Then add the miso mixture and simmer one more minute. Serve with garnished scallions.

2. Toasted Squash Seeds (pumpkin seeds even better!)

Clean seeds and toss any other junk. Spread out on a cookie sheet or toaster tray and bake at 200 degrees F for :15 to dry. Then spray with olive oil (optional), and add sea salt (optional), black pepper, curry and onion powder. Bake at 275 for :15-:25 or until awesome. Cool and eat.

3. Squash Kanten (like Jello)

Soak 4 Tablespoons kanten flakes (aka agar, a seaweed that can be purchased at Whole Foods or online) in a cup of tepid water. Place two cups spring water and one cup apple juice, as well as a dash of sea salt into a small saucepan and turn on the heat, adding 1/2 cubed butternut squash (no seeds). Bring to a boil and simmer closed for :10, then blend well. Add soaked flakes and stir well to full dissolve over low heat. Transfer to a brownie pan and cool at room temperature for an hour. Cover and chill to keep. Cut and serve or pour into a plastic container to take with you. A great snack after working out or playing racquetball!

Chipotle and Chick-Fil-A Eliminate Antibiotics…McDonald’s Next

This is BIG NEWS. One by one, fast food restaurants and other well known food brands are taking antibiotics out of their animal foods. Why?

Simple. Although the short term gain of cows and chickens that seem to avoid infection and increase farmers’ bottom line is appealing, it is causing massive problems with human health.

McDonald’s Story

Antibiotics should be used SPARINGLY, when there’s an infection in a human or pet. But widespread agricultural use of antibiotics has lowered their effectiveness, and caused bacteria to morph into highly resistant strains.

Thousands of deaths of infants and elderly people are coming from staph infections, as well as C-Diff and other bacteria, some through hospitals, and it’s a major problem.

But things are changing. You can thank the Food Babe. Big Ag wants her out of the way. But she has bodyguards. She is making the world safer for all of us.

What else does she advocate? Eliminating GMO, Genetically Modified organisms. When you by Organic, you get real foods, that offer real nutrition, and that don’t cause an immune response in your body.

You Have a Hard Pancreas

Screen Shot 2015-09-14 at 10.03.28 AM

Pancreatic cancer is on the rise. You can tell by reading the obituaries, or by Googling it.

Steve Jobs, that famous Last Lecture professor from Carnegie Mellon Randy Pausch, Patrick Swayze, Michael Landon, Sally Ride, Ben Orr from the Cars, and so many others have died, some of them very young, from Pancreatic Cancer. More lately, given the pollution, stress, and non-foods we now eat.

Makes total sense. The pancreas is a very small and sensitive organ, deep inside your body, and it can be adversely affected by too much:

  • Salt
  • Beef/Pork/
  • Poultry
  • Eggs
  • Sugar
  • Fruit
  • Coffee
  • Smoking
  • Chemicals
  • Spices

Stress also hurts the pancreas, as well as not getting enough rest and sleep. You may recall that diabetes has gone from 10% to 40% of our population in the past two generations. Pancreatic cancer is also rising fast.

I see Americans eating a lot of eggs, salt, meat, then having a cigarette and coffee, and I understand why so many people get Pancreatic cancer.

Do you have a tight pancreas? One way to tell is to feel the center of your palms. If there is a give, a softness, then you needn’t worry. But if it’s hard there, and you eat some of the above foods on a regular basis, and perhaps you also run, or bike to keep it shape, you might need to mellow out your pancreas.

Here’s how to avoid Pancreatic Cancer

  1. Don’t skip meals, eat less, chew more, eat sitting down
  2. Eat more boiled grains and vegetables
  3. Eat less animal foods, especially in the summer
  4. Avoid all sugar, but especially sugar that comes with salt
  5. Avoid all eggs, but especially baked goods, and especially in the summer
  6. Lower your sodium intake. <100mg per serving for any prepared food is good.
  7. Eat less fruit, especially tropic fruit, and especially in the winter
  8. Minimize chemicals in food and beverages, cleansers, personal care, and outside
  9. Get enough rest & sleep, work less, take two showers/day, do yoga/thai chi/meditate
  10. Take plenty of nature walks, and lie down on the grass each day

Alzheimer’s Disease Explosion Coming

5.3 Million Americans have Alzheimer’s Disease. That is about 1.5% of the general population. But it is closer to 5% of Americans over 60. And they say it will grow three-fold in the next 30 years. That will bankrupt Medicare.

They are saying in a couple of years there may be a cocktail which can help prevent tangled folding of proteins in our brains, and therefore hold off the progression of the disease.

Will you wait for a cure or prevention for Alzheimer’s Disease? What about Mad Cow Disease? Heart Disease? Cancer? These are all what I call Animal Protein Disease.

95% of the people who get Alzheimer’s Disease enjoy ground beef, eggs and dairy food on a daily basis. Lucky for me, I have those foods rarely.

How ’bout you?
