My Speech at Acton Networkers

These folks are working so hard trying to find a job, they deserve some support, and last night I tried to fill that role at their Successful Career Management Group.

While holding myself back from too many dramatic claims about the natural lifestyle, I helped these folks see that it’s about taking control over our daily habits, and easing back off the food, toxins and stress, while being thankful for what we have, and enjoying nature.

I think it was well received, and I did get some very good questions. I hope to speak for the entire group on a Friday morning sometime soon.

It’s hard to be out of work, and I think the key is to try to enjoy your days, even when the money is not flowing in.

Go Your Own Way

Are you living the life YOU want?

I’ve had 25 jobs in the past 25 years, from selling aluminum siding to selling health insurance,

from publishing a magazine to serving seafood, from designing business cards to driving a cab.

Some of these I have done for ME. Those are the ones that I enjoyed the most, and had the most success with.

Please don’t give in to the nay-sayers in your life, who may mean well, but sometimes prevent you from going

where you want to go. You still need to listen to others, including that voice inside that may tell you that it’s not yet time, or that you

are not quite ready, but one step at a time, you can get where you are going.

For example, if you have been an auto worker in Detroit, you might be part of a long line of family members

who have made a living as a member of the auto workers union. But hundreds of thousands of jobs have left that area,

and you might have always wanted to be a chef, or perhaps a dance teacher. Chase your dreams, don’t let anyone stop you.

I am chasing my dream of being a healer and an educator on natural health. Slowly, but steadily, I am making progress.

It feels really good to make progress, and without a money orientation or a need to yield to those around me, who have different dreams and needs, I am free to be me. That feels good.

My Friend Ron

My friend Ron had a car accident 20 years ago, and since then he has half a life.

He can drive, but he cannot walk well, so he would never even think of taking a walk on a beautiful day like today. Of course he COULD.

He can eat, but he cannot cook easily, and has nobody to cook for, so he doesn’t cook. He could do that too.

Fact is, he COULD do most everything any of us can do, except it might require some extra effort, and he might be reminded of his accident.

I met Ron only a few months ago. It took time to see his good qualities, under his defenses, behind his idiosyncracies.

Ron does not judge me, because I am one of very few people who make time for him. I like not being judged. I also like being appreciated.

I especially like making Ron’s life a little easier, and a little more natural. Today, his porch door is open, giving him some sunlight and fresh air. It’s not a Macrobiotic meal, but it’s a start.

America’s Anger Problem

We are angry. That’s why hockey dads kill coaches, disgruntled ex-workers kill bosses, and Army doctors kill patients.

Why are we so angry? Primarily because we are eating sick, miserable, scared and angry animals at a ferocious pace, and we are surrounded with suffering and a lack of wisdom on how to handle it.

Why isn’t everyone angry? Some of us don’t eat as much anger and violence, know ways to work it out, and they also may have different mechanisms for emotion such as sadness or schizophrenia.

How should we handle it? Here is a top 10 list that everyone should read, and those of us with some anger issues might consider tackling one at a time

1. Stop watching the news and reading the newspaper. There is a high concentration of bad news because good news doesn’t sell papers.
2. Stop watching violent television, movies and playing violent video games. This is practicing being good at getting angry, and feeding our anger.
3. Stop eating fast food and any animal products that are not free range, organic, fed natural diets, etc. These animals are suffering horribly, and we are destroying ourselves and the planet as we continue this practice. If you are concerned about higher prices for these healthier animal foods, eat less of them, and replace them with organic grains, beans and vegetables, which will also improve your health.
4. Read “Anger” by Thich Nhat Hahn. It’s a remarkable book that is the product of a brilliant, focused man studying many years on the subject. I recommend the audio version, available on Amazon.
5. Instead of running, biking, swimming or lifting weights, walk for thirty minutes each day. During the walk, enjoy nature and be thankful for what you have.
6. Tell everyone in your life that you appreciate them, and then realize they are doing the best they can, and then love them like they might not be around tomorrow.
7. Take time to work on something you enjoy, whether it be poetry, piano, carpentry or gardening. We are all creative, we just need to nurture it.
8. Dance, sing, do yoga and enjoy life flowing through your body. This is called being alive, and too much work and stress can make us forget for too long. Don’t let it.
9. Chew your food well, and choose foods with less salt, less sugar, less chemicals, and less processing. This makes your body happy and your mind powerful.
10. When you feel anger, breathe, and ask someone who loves you to listen to you compassionately, without judgement. Take care of your anger and it will heal.

Eating Meat Leads to War

We’re all very sad today about the tragedy at Fort Hood. In fact my wife’s old boyfriend is an Army shrink at Fort Hood, with a wife and a bunch of kids, we don’t know if he’s alive or dead.

But there’s something most of us are missing:

1. When we eat meat, we get a ME vs. EVERONE AND EVERYTHING ELSE attitude. It blinds us to our humanity, compassion and intuition.

2. Eating meat leads to gas-guzzling, joining the Army, putting pesticides on your lawn, etc. All dangerous, all cause harm to others.

3. If you really want peace, stop eating animals, at least those who can feel pain. Hard to know if clams feel pain, but cows, pigs, chickens, lamb, dolphins, whales all do.

4. If you want more info, or you are appalled or confused by this posting, I urge you to do one of these two things:

-Attend Will Tuttle’s lecture/concert at 1pm on Friday Nov. 13, at Temple B’nai Torah, Sudbury (on Rt. 20, near Landham Rd.)

-Buy and read Will Tuttle’s book, The World Peace Diet, http://www.skyboard.net/will_person_creditcard.html

Too weak to enjoy physical work?

Met someone today who is so beautiful and caring, but she’s up against it fiscally, and facing

changes in life which require a lot of mental energy. Trouble is, she’s not eating well.

I want to help her, to cook for her, because I know she can tackle her challenges with some more of nature’s goodness and a little meditation.

If this also fits you, consider making this for dinner…

1. Brown Rice with Lentils or Chestnuts or Black Beans (2 cups water, 3/4 cup rice, 1/4 cup beans, pinch sea salt, boil for :45)

2. Stir-fried carrots, broccoli and onions (or leeks), with sesame oil. Add shoyu/water and steam toward the end. Ginger makes it even yummier.

3. Add Gomashio (sesame salt; Eden makes a fine one or you can make it yourself) to taste.

4. Eat a real pickle at the end

Chew well, no dessert. Sing a song or look at pictures and laugh after dinner.

Good luck!!

What’s It All About?

People talk about Germs, and many are afraid. You have MILLIONS of them, in all different varieties, some good and some bad. They are not the issue. The issue is IMMUNITY. Therefore, getting a flu shot is not only useless, but it is dangerous.

People talk about nutrition…I need to get enough protein, calcium, vitamin C, etc. This is nonsense. Your body needs BALANCE, and time/energy  to clean itself in between meals. Your blood leaches calcium from your bones if your diet is too acidic. Acid-containing foods include meat, dairy foods, and nightshade vegetables such as eggplant, potatoes, asparagus and spinach.

People talk about financial security, insurance, health plans…FAGETABOUTIT! What we need is to be active in our daily lives, eat a wholesome diet, and develop and share our gifts with the community. In time, what follows is good health, happiness and money.

I’m hoping that when it comes to my blog…People will talk!

What’s IBM Doing About Health Insurance Costs?

Did you read the recent article in the Boston Globe about IBM’s recent change in strategy over employee health?

It seems that in 2004, they began to invest in Behavioral Health, which means they have paid counselors, coaches, trainers, etc.

to help people improve their diet and lifestyle at home and at work, and guess what? These people have enjoyed better health, higher productivity, and lower healthcare expenses. This is big!! (blue) They are not the first ones to discover it, it’s common sense, and it’s been practiced by MANY other companies, even local companies, such as EMC, CVS and Staples. But every new success, when shared, gives more people hope and more companies hope that they too can reverse the scary trend of lower productivity, and higher employee costs.

I am specializing in setting up private programs (ie, not through your insurance provider) with smaller employers (250 employees or less), which can be tailored to your exact requirements. For more information, contact me at 508-333-4153 or www.DavidsOrganic.com
