Is Everything Okay?

That’s all any parent wants to know, and my wife
and are no different.

When we are truly healthy, we know intuitively
that we are well, and we function at a high level,
with happiness and flexibility. Our intuition also
serves to warn us of problems before they it,
extending also to our children etc.

We also get a feel for our community and our world.

Although I’m still working to improve my health,
I know that things are slowly unraveling in the USA.
I have seen it with jobs, home values, at the
post office, the bank and the airport, and especially
in the schools. People are stressed out, and things
are not going smoothly.

I believe this stems from our poor health, and the
cause is almost exclusively from a diet high in
animal foods and chemicals. This lack of balance,
with extreme yin and yang, is pulling our bodies
in both directions, and weakening us, to the point
where we are being affected by much more.

Can we fix this? Yes. Will we fix it? Almost certainly
not, unless we get serious about putting convenience
after health and peace.

Walking more, cooking every day, choosing a mostly
organic mostly plant-based diet, spending less time
on the TV, phone and computer, and more time
outside.

Please wave as you walk past me in the woods!

A Sense of Doom

Everywhere I go, I find people are pessimistic about the USA.

It’s hard not to feel bad, given the ignorance and the missteps of our government.

But change is possible. In my opinion, it begins in our homes.

Are you doing these five important things to turn things around?

1. Eat a (mostly) vegan diet. This reduces suffering, improves the environment, leads to ending hunger, and improves your intuition and your health.
2. Recycle paper, plastic, glass and compost. This reduces landfill, pollution and soil erosion, and puts less strain on the sewers.
3. Use no gasoline for snow removal, leaf blowing and grass cutting etc. This improves the air quality and reduces lung and brain cancers.
4. Stop using hair color, nail polish, hair spray and harmful cleansers in your home. This extends your life through reducing harmful neuro-toxins.
5. Use no pesticides on your lawn, or in your home, and buy (mostly) organic produce. This reduces your risk of cancer and improves the environment

Save the world!

An End to Bullying

Happy Spring!!

We’ve been hearing a lot of better news about the economy, including some new jobs, and of course the stock market is inching its way up steadily. But what has changed really? Until people change the way they treat each other, we’ll still have big problems.

One nagging issue is bullying. It starts in some elementary schools, and is rampant in middle schools and beyond. Kids tease, exclude, verbally abuse and even assault each other, mainly as a result of their own stress and insecurity. Until recently, most of the press has been letters to the editor and discussion about making the bullies pay for their crimes. Sounds like the same old parochial mentality that has our jails full and our society running scared.

But yesterday in G, I heard about a non-profit, started by a name I recognized–Peter Yarrow, from Peter, Paul & Mary. His nonprofit, Operation Respect, seems to have the right idea.

Tonight, there is an event in Norwood, at which Peter Yarrow will speak and perform. I hope you will check it out and consider attending. For more information, click here.

After all, the future starts with our kids, and with the stress they are under in today’s world, we can only expect a harsh future, unless we get personally involved.

Not ready to eat clean yet?

Are you stuck on cheese and chicken? You are not alone. Somewhere along the line, we tasted and we liked. And now we ain’t givin’ it up without a fight.

“It’s not fair!” you say. “It tastes SO good!” True enough. If your health is outstanding, and you have no complaints, I will not try to persuade you. There is a high
cost for eating these foods, particularly for the animals and the planet, but that is not enough to move a person. We need something that hits closer to home.

But these foods cause all sorts of health problems in our future. If you are under 40, and grew up healthy, you may be fine now. Heck, you may be fine into your 70s.
But more and more of us are getting creepy illnesses in our 30s and 40s, from liver and pancreatic cancer, to MS to Crohn’s Disease. Not fun. Not good for business at all.

My advice? Keep an open mind. Try some new foods. Quorn makes nuggets and patties that you would swear are the real deal. And there are several rice/soy/almond
cheeses that are decent (avoid casein–this is milk protein, not sure how they can legally call that non-dairy.

And pray.

Lifestyle Balancing

Yesterday we talked about food changes for a better life.

Today, I’m all about EVERYTHING else:

• Taking care of your mind (affirmations, living in the now, breathing, meditating, completing urgent matters)
• Taking care of your body (body rub, self-massage, walks, taking care of your feet, not overdoing radiation, chemicals, etc.)
• Taking care of your spirit (being compassionate to yourself and others, connecting with nature, dancing, singing, creating, etc.)

Facebook is not good for your health, if it takes the place of the above

Sometimes we have problems that are not easily solved, such as a relationship, or financial problems.
It’s important to realize that these are smaller problems than they could be (ie there’s always hope, could be worse, etc.),
and we are not suffering alone, and we have support, and things will get better as we bring positive changes

So don’t obsess–make time to relax, and to eat, and to have fun, and to create. Humans are multi-taskers,
but we should do one thing at a time, so we can do it well, enjoy it, and move on to the next thing. That is
really one form of meditation.

Have you read The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle?
http://www.eckharttolle.com/home/

You know you need change, that’s the first step!

Sometimes it takes a confluence of things to wake us up.

You know, in the morning, it’s not just the sunshine, or even the birds, sometimes we need an alarm clock.

For our health, perhaps we know we are overweight, but maybe we have too much going on or are unsure how to approach the changes.

Then the health issue arises–nightsweats, heart palpitations, a rash, an allergic reaction, a severe head or backache, or perhaps you just have a sense of impending doom. Time to pay attention.

Our bodies are truly amazing. In addition to moving us around, and giving us senses for outside pleasures, they also can alert us when something is wrong. For many of us, something is wrong right now, given the way our society eats, works, and lives (out of balance with nature).

So now you’ve had your wakeup call. But the real question is, will you let the doctor cover the symptoms of your problem with cholesterol or blood pressure or diabetes or asthma or skin rash medication? Or will you give your body some support so it can give you the life you want?

If you are committed to the latter, that’s good. Here are three ways you can start. Choose one, or choose them all, and give yourself a month to see what happens. Remember though, it may take a
couple of weeks of symptoms to be free of the problem, so don’t run to the doctor, just because the rash is getting worse.

1. Eliminate the use of all dairy foods. Trust me, they are only doing you harm, from the pesticides, to the hormones, to the bacteria, to the glue (made from casein). This stuff is poison, and it’s not even a good source of calcium. Advertising can be wrong.

2. Eat MUCH less beef, chicken, pork, lamb, turkey, etc., and MUCH less eggs. Animal protein (including dairy) is the source of most if not all disease, and the quality of these foods is shockingly bad. Also, there is much suffering for the animals, and the Earth, so much so that our survival on the planet is at stake.

3. Eat more boiled grains, and chew them well. 80% of the people on Earth have rice every day. Brown rice is the best, it’s easy to cook, affordable, and can be cooked in many different ways.

More steps tomorrow, but here’s one that you’ve already taken:

You know you are getting better every day, and opening your mind to becoming more natural and healthy. So let your stress be reduced.

BREATHE EASY!!

Moving Forward

Okay, now you’ve read The World Peace Diet, or perhaps The China Study, or some other book that has made you realize that EVERYONE AGREES, A PLANT-BASED DIET IS BEST FOR HEALTH, PEACE, ANIMALS, AND THE PLANET.

Now what?

How do you transition to a plant-based diet?
How will you get enough protein?
How will you be satisfied by your meals?
How will you get the kids to eat these new foods?
Where will you get the recipes?
Who will teach you how to cook with sea vegetables?
Where will you get all these new ingredients?

So many questions, so much uncertainty.

My advice? Breathe.

You should be happy you know which way to go,
and just relax. That’s the start of a great new life.

Then take a cooking class. With me, with Brian
in Hopkinton, with Will in Concord. Somewhere.

Also buy a book. Christina Pirello, Aveline Kushi,
Jessica Porter, and MANY others have cookbooks
for great Macrobiotic (vegan + balanced) meals.

And ask questions!! Have your vegan friends over,
and most importantly, just buy new ingredients,
and try them. It’s not rocket science. It’s how humans
used to eat, and how we will climb out of this rut.

Dear Partners and Sponsors of the March 12 World Peace Diet Compassion and Health Campaign —

VICTORY!! WE DID IT!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

The March 12 Campaign succeeded completely (though it took us till 1 a.m. on the morning of the 14th to do it!).

The World Peace Diet is now the #1 best-selling book on the planet.

Thanks to you and an incredible, cooperative effort by the vegan and health communities, we are bringing the message of compassion for all life to the mainstream!

It’s important to keep the momentum going, and to keep The World Peace Diet in the top ten for a few days, to continue to send this message. If you have any ideas as to how to accomplish this, please let me know.

I am hoping that you will alert your mailing lists that this powerful pro-vegan book is now #1 on Amazon, and to recommend continued support to keep the ripples of compassion and nutritional sanity flowing into the cultural mainstream.

This would be incredibly powerful to help animals and the Earth be free from human enslavement and violence.

Time is of the essence on this. Hoping we can mobilize quickly and keep the momentum going.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Learn About Macrobiotics

Unlike most diets, Macrobiotics has increased in popularity steadily since the 1700s.

Some people are scared of the word, but it’s not a religion, and just means “great life.”

The idea is simple. Yin and yang are the forces that govern the entire universe, and by understanding them while we consider our bodies, the seasons, our eating and our lifestyle, we can create balance, which leads to peace, good health, and a great life.

If you or someone you know has frequent illnesses, chances are they are out of balance,
with a poor diet, not enough connection to nature, or too much stress. A return to nature
can help. Unfortunately, the health system in the U.S. relies on covering up symptoms through drugs, which is counterproductive and dangerous. A change is inevitable.

Thousands have healed their illness through Macrobiotics, many after doctors have
told them they could not do anything more. That has led to the publishing of thousands
of articles and books, and the establishment of Macrobiotic centers throughout the world.

There are dozens of Macrobiotic restaurants in Los Angeles CA, catering to hollywood types who are anxious to look and feel younger, and live their dreams.

What is your dream? Pursue it by learning more about Macrobiotics in Framingham on Wednesday, March 17.
