The hardest part of my job is when I see people who are suffering with cancer or some other illness, and they are faithfully listening to the doctor, who has dragged them through the visits, forms, tests, drugs, radiation, surgery and the cancer is still there, because nobody asked them what they eat or how they take care of their body every day, like it does not matter. When I meet these people and give them my card, they thank me but both of us know they won’t call. Is it because they somehow feel they deserve to suffer? Or is it because eating meat and ice cream makes the pain go away, even temporarily, and they don’t want to give that up, even if it kills them. I wish I understood.
Yesterday, my wife had a near-flat on her Subaru. Rather than call AAA or Subaru Roadside Assistance, I offered to bring the car to the nearest auto shop, who we had bad luck with consistently in the past, but people change, right? I explained we had a short time window and were returning our lease in 60 days. After silence, three reminder phone calls and three hours, we got an estimate for $629.50 for four new tires. I smiled and called Subaru. They would try to solve our problem within one hour they said. One hour later, we had our tire plugged and the cost was $28.50. Giddy-up!
Do you eat widely? It happens from time to time, when we have stress, or bad habits, or wild friends, or children. My best advice is to start the night before cleanse with a body rub and a good night sleep, then have grated daikon & carrot broth with shoyu for breakfast, and brown rice w/ miso soup for lunch, and no dinner. Then the next morning have a glass of room temperature water with lemon, and resume life as usual. Let me know how it works at david@kaganmedia.net
This is not just pumpkin season. Squash, Turnips, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes and other vegetables are great foods. Boil some up, add a little smart balance and tekka (Japanese condiment), round out your meal with some miso soup, brown rice and beans, and you are living well!
If God appeared to you, would you run away, or embrace him? In history, we have seen so many turn away because their expectations of who or what God is was not met. With Macrobiotics, many turn away due to fear or misinformation. Macrobiotics is a cool phrase coined by a Frenchman a couple of hundred years ago, to describe a longstanding Asian tradition of following nature in order to live a longer and healthier life. Those who follow it today have virtually no health problems, and are extremely productive. And the good news is, there’s no Pope, and no guilt–eat a little more brown rice and a little less animal foods and take a few more nature walks and you will see some progress, and be tempted to do more, which can only be good for you, your family, and the rest of the planet. Want peace? Learn about Macrobiotics now!

When someone is angry, oftentimes they take it out on the wrong person. Come to think of it, anger is a personal feeling, and one that should probably never be shared. If you are angry, and someone tries to help you, does it make you angrier? Anger is a sign that your liver is congested. Eat less, chew more, less sugar, less fat, and more grains, vegetables and a pickle after each meal. Walking helps too. Still angry? Try Anger, by Thich Nhat Hahn.
