Macrobiotic Remedies For What Ails You

In the past two days, I’ve eaten things I regularly don’t. Stress, holidays, weakness, whatever.

Many people have no symptoms when they eat this way, because they have strong constitution, or because they’ve always eaten this way, but I am sensitive, so I feel:

  • Listless
  • Irritable
  • Constipated
  • Not hungry

To get this stuff (mostly cheese, some sugar) out, I’m using something called Ume-Sho-Kuzu, with a pickled umeboshi plum, shoyu (high quality soy sauce) and kuzu (aka kudzu, a white rock that comes mainly from Louisiana these days).

The energy of this medicine pulls out fat and oil, and revitalizes my digestive system, while it alkalinizes it.

Usually, 1-2 days of this plus some good eating (brown rice, miso soup, steamed veggies, beans) and especially good chewing, can set me straight.

Commitment vs. Obligation

I am going through an exercise for the next 30 days to help free up my negative energy.

Even as I am committed to serving others, and I spend many hours cooking and driving and listening for people who need my support, I sometimes feel this work weakens me, and I need to understand and avoid that dynamic.

Part of it may stem from my mixing up commitment versus obligation.

My mother often did not follow through her on her commitments. As a result, I am loathe to break any plan, and get hurt easily when others break their commitment to me or even around me. as a result, If I make a commitment that comes from obligation, I can develop a sense of resentment, and become passive-aggressive, or harm myself in the process of following through.

Today, I acknowledge that service is my joy, and that sometimes it means I need to do work which does not thrill me or fulfill my every whim, and sometimes I will be dispassionate about it. That does not mean I am not a caring being, it just means I need to breathe through my work. In the end, I will be paid for my services, and someone else will get what they need.

Any negative feelings that come up, I will feel them and allow them to dissipate, leaving me better able to give and receive love. Meditation eases stress and judgement.

What do you struggle with?

Why Life Sometimes Seems Not Worth It (But Is)

I know quite a few people who have mentioned the S word to me lately. Given the fact that my sister lost her life this way just six months ago, I have a lot to say.

I too have stress, and sometimes wonder if it’s worth it to go through the motions every day, when I don’t have enough money to pay the bills, the kids make life difficult, and there is always something around the corner which rots (bank fees, construction detours, blackouts, etc.,). Suicide seems like overkill (funny!), and yet getting out of bed can be so difficult.

There is SO much to be thankful for also, like the weather, my health, the love of my wife and children, my cat, my car etc., but yes, it’s easy to take those things for granted.

But I have gotten in the habit of doing daily affirmations, upon rising and when I go to sleep. I start with…

”I’m happy, healthy, and grateful.” And I am. You may be also!

I have also seen a lot of angst from people who have filled themselves with miserable animals. This really does seem to make a difference. Eating a plant-based diet with a small amount of fish helps.

Ooh, my hip hurts!

I am very healthy in general. No medications, no symptoms.

But after a few bad meals (cheddar chips, oy vey!), a smoky meeting outside, and sleeping on the floor, I hurt.

So my friend Leslie gave me some Arnica. I will let you know when I feel better.

(I am also eating more carefully–brown rice, miso soup, steamed veggies, and a pickle)

How We Handle Ourselves Matters

In the past, even as recently as five years ago, when things when wrong, I sometimes fell apart.

A rainstorm when sunny skies were predicted, a recipe that turned out wrong, a person who took offense when none was intended, or a dead battery might trigger stress that lead to more problems. These are signs of poor health, or an incomplete understanding of life.

Now, I have my moments of stress, but they are rare. When I do, I recognize them, and ask for help, or help myself, before I manufacture more problems. I also spend more of my time listening to, and serving others.

I am grateful for the growth, and I enjoy my days much more.

If I can be of any help to you, please let me know, at dayogaman@gmail.com.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Healthier Pancakes

My only regret is I forgot to take pictures of these beauties:

  • -Chocolate chip w/ maple syrup, using egg replacer, soy milk, agave nectar and white & rice flours
  • -Banana chip coconut with cherry syrup, same mix as above. Both were cooked with safflower oil

Delicious!! Besides leaving out milk, eggs and sugar, here are two other tips to keep your experience healthier:

  1. If you have asthma, allergies or a sensitive nose, consider cooking outside on a portable gas stove
  2. Always have a pickle after having oily foods

Rereading Natural Cures By Kevin Trudeau

This guy is somewhat creepy, he spent time in prison, and is a HUGE salesman on the web etc., but a lot of his ideas are sound.

He says that disease is caused by:

  1. Toxins
  2. Nutritional Deficiencies
  3. Electromagnetic Chaos
  4. Mental and/or Emotional Stress

I happen to agree with all that. The real question is what toxins, what nutritional deficiencies, and how to do something efficiently about all four.

I believe my eBook addresses these topics. Why not spend $3.99 and buy it today.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep (for S.P.)

My new friend is a wonderful person. He is sensitive, smart, generous and has great taste.

Unfortunately, he’s feeling weak and depressed, after decades of living without discipline, and having only recently tasted life without privilege.

Luckily, he’s been to the mountaintop, and he has plenty of support. He needs only to buckle down for a while, and his strength and confidence will return, and hopefully his enjoyment of life.

First on his list is eating. He’s now cooking every day, and eating within the guidelines of macrobiotics, a plant-based, whole foods, balanced diet of boiled grains, beans, land and sea vegetables, and nuts, seeds, etc.

Next, and perhaps his biggest challenge, is sleep. As a young person with money, he partied long into the night. And as a physician, he worked until he lost all sense of time and balance. But now he needs that balance to regain his energy.

Hopefully, he will read this and use this to improve his sleep, starting tonight.

Look Away, Quickly!

I was just reading the statistics related to my web site from my hosting company. Traffic is growing steadily, but I learned that 89% of my visitors stay for less than thirty seconds. That cannot be good for business.

But I think I understand why. People don’t like to be confronted with judgement, or truth. It makes them feel like a kid, and they just want to be free. Even if the idea or truth is real.

Americans have always wanted their freedom. To be slave owners. To close their door on beggars. To run down pedestrians who are in their way. And now, to eat as much meat, eggs, cheese and ice cream as they see fit.

I’m angry at America. We should know the damage we are doing to ourselves, animals, and the planet. And how we are short-changing future generations. But we don’t want to know the truth. We’d rather put our fingers in our ears, and give a few bucks to a non-profit who does nothing good, except for conceal our reality.

Time to wake up kiddo!!
