cowsare people

According to researchers, eating beef more than once per year contributes to heart disease.

Okay, so here’s 10 reasons not to eat beef:

  1. Linked to heart disease
  2. Linked to cancer
  3. Linked to obesity
  4. Linked to alzheimers
  5. Drains drinking water supplies
  6. Damages soil through fertilizer and toxic runoff

Triple D Sliced Another Way

diners_drive-ins_and_dives-show

So many of us are big fans of Diners, Drive-ins & Dives on the Food Network, it’s a fun show without a doubt, and host Guy Fieri has cashed in big-time, with this show, other shows and a growing restaurant empire.

The restaurants and meals featured on this show are mostly super-rich, over-the-top affairs that make for great television and promote the Standard American Diet Gone Wild, with the help of fast cars and occasional rock stars.

But, these days we are asking more of our stars and role models, especially when it comes to our health. You probably heard that Fieri’s colleague Paula Dean, herself a popular Food Network star, finally came clean about her health. She is suffering from Diabetes and is overweight, as a result of practicing what she preaches, with lunches such as double bacon burgers between grilled cheese sandwiches, and the like.

While her solution, which is drawing attention to and supporting the Diabetes control establishment is not perfect, at least people can see that eating as she advocates, will lead to poor health. However, the same cannot be said for Fieri and his show, known as Triple D. Ironically, Fieri himself grew up in a family that espoused a largely vegan macrobiotic way of eating. So he knows better. But he also knows what sells, and we are still living in a free country.

But we wonder if his show get some ribbing (no pun intended) by the food police (myself included), with the purpose of getting a similar disclosure of Mr. Fieri’s health problems, and his warnings to an audience that clearly has difficulties making wise decisions for itself.

Perhaps he should do an episode entitled Diarrhea, Diabetes, and Dysentary, and show the bathroom and healthcare issues that he, his featured cooks, establishments and their fans are introducing to the public. That would add a whole new dimension to his “we’re rolling out” line.

Duh! Dairy Is Dangerous!

For those people who need the scientific facts, the word has come in: Overall, children who drank the 2% milk showed lower BMI scores than those drinking the 1% milk.

What this means is that skim milk is actually worse for us than whole milk, at least in terms of weight gain. And by the way, milk is actually a rather lousy source of calcium, as we cannot absorb most of the calcium in it. It also comes with tons of pathogens and hormones that do damage such as early puberty and breast cancer.

Now, the reason why (so obvious!): there is more animal protein in skim milk, ounce for ounce, and because it has fewer calories, people may either want to drink more, or think they can drink more.

Animal protein is the greatest threat to human health. That means low-fat foods such as chicken breast and eggs and steak are garbage foods. Perhaps that is why vegans are the the healthiest people on the planet.

Wake up America!! If we all became vegans tomorrow, not only would the healthcare crisis be abated within two years, but we’d also have no more energy crisis, and environmental crisis. Are you paying attention?

Hello?

Heal for Spring

springrenewal

It’s the Ides of March, and everybody should be excited about spring, except perhaps the tax accountants, who are overwhelmed with work.

Inevitably, the cold weather in winter means I am less active and I overeat. I believe I will move west or south before I can arrest this trend.

I use spring as a time to heal. I believe everyone is different, and I don’t not assume anyone has the same needs as me, but here’s what I’m doing:

I printed out a poster on my wall with my desired results, and then ten steps to get me there. For the next six weeks, I will give myself grades on how well I follow through, and also note how I feel, and my results. I have also taken a before picture of my face, and will compare that with how I look in six weeks. In addition to my diet and lifestyle tweaks, I will also have colon hydrotherapy at the end, which is particularly great after a campaign such as this, and particular useful as the season changes.

It’s been less than one week, and in week one I’ve not done everything on the list, but I’m a solid 6 for 10. Most importantly, I feel my willpower increasing, and I feel better already, which gives me incentive to keep going.

Cleanse For Spring

I’ve done it before, and will soon do my spring liver cleanse…

  1. Eat light for 5 days, no animal foods or alcohol, or sugar (no small feat!)
  2. No solid food for 2-3 days, only drink water, sweet vegetable drink, carrot juice, apple juice or twig tea
  3. Have colon hydrotherapy
  4. Another 2-3 days of liquids, add lemon juice & olive oil mixture, with cilantro, cayenne and milk thistle
  5. Eat light for another 5 days

During those 2 weeks, do plenty of walking, massage, and get plenty of rest. Do not eat within three hours of bed. Try to make time for regular morning bowel movements, and do tummy massage and lip massage to assist.

I expect these changes…

  • Softer skin with fewer wrinkles
  • More hair and nail growth
  • Easing of neck pain, tightness, anger and nail fungus
  • Better elimination
  • More energy in the morning, during the day, and before bed
  • More patience, openness, creativity and focus

If you are overweight, expect to lose several pounds.

What’s Wrong With Milk?

  • Breast cancer strikes one out of every nine women
  • Heart disease affects almost half of all adults
  • Diabetes has claimed one third of us as members
  • Milk drinkers have the highest rate of osteoporosis
  • 50% of milk drinkers are overweight vs. 5% of vegans

NotMilk4

Why? How do we stop it?

We have no chance of stopping it, as long as we keeping eating garbage, participating in violence, and wasting our bodies by driving, even when we are just going up the street.

Number one on the list my enemies is The U.S. Dairy Council. They tell us that milk does a body good, and show us role models who look fit and trim and sport a milk mustache. Only thing is they have blood on their hands.

Milk and milk products are a huge reason that breast cancer, heart disease and diabetes are rampant, and they are also implicated in everything from SIDS to schizophrenia, and from Acne and allergies, to the melting of the polar ice caps.

  • Did you know that milk and milk products have more bacteria than any other food?
  • Did you know that RBST continues to be sold in cheese even though it has been positively identified as a cancer-promoting food additive?
  • Did you know it takes ten pounds of milk to make one pound of cheese?

If you want to make one change this year that helps your health, saves money, and makes the planet a cleaner and more peaceful place, give up milk products. Not so easy is it?

You will be bucking the efforts of not just the Dairy Council, but the U.S.D.A., and the entire healthcare system. They want you sick, because you spend more when you are sick.

All About Pickles

We love pickles. They are salty, crunchy and delicious, and go great with sandwiches, in tartar sauce, and just about anytime you want a snack.

Unfortunately, you have to wade through a lot of crappy pickles these days before you get something good. The country store adds sugar and, vinegar, and they are a tad too salty for my taste. At supermarkets, the news is even worse—most of the pickles have food coloring, high fructose corn syrup, msg and vinegar. Who ever heard of yellow pickles?

You might say that all pickles should have vinegar. Truth is, real pickles do not. They use just cucumbers, water and salt, along with spices such as dill, garlic, mustard, and pepper.

I make fresh pickles often, almost weekly. When I don’t feel like it, I can go to Whole Foods and get a couple of brands (Dan’s, Real Pickles, Bubbe’s and the store-made variety) that are all great, but sometimes a bit pricey.

But making them is SO easy. Here are the steps:

  1. Fill a saucepan with 10 oz. spring water
  2. Add a TS of coarse sea salt (or any other salt you like), plus a generous portion of fresh or jarred dill, dried garlic, mustard seed, or peppercorns, and bring to a boil. Shut it off and leave standing covered for a few minutes.
  3. Rinse and cut off the ends of a couple of pickling cukes (I just bought two for $.67 at Stop & Shop). Then slice longways or into chips, and place in a jar.
  4. Pour the water over until it covers the cucumber slices. Then cover and let stand on the counter for an hour or so. Refrigerate overnight or one day for young pickles, or 2-3 days for full pickles. They keep about ten days. If they are bland, use more salt next time.

photo 5Oh, and the health aspects of pickles are well known. Simply have a slice of pickle at the end of a meal to activate digestion. If you are not hungry for breakfast, or need a little help eliminating, a pickle slice can also do the trick.

Enjoy!

Raw Foods

medfrd3065

Are raw foods healthy?  Yes and no.

Some foods are meant to be eaten raw, and can strengthen our health, depending on what they are, where you live, your present condition, and the time of year.

Here are some good reasons why you should be VERY careful with raw food at this time of year (mid to late Winter):

  • We need mostly well-cooked foods this time of year: roots, bean dishes, boiled grains, and well-cooked land/sea vegetables, with sea salt or shoyu/tamari.
  • Raw foods such as broccoli and cauliflower can harm us, especially our thyroid gland.
  • Many vegetables and fruits are grown with pesticides, which are toxic to the liver, cause allergic reactions, and are weakening. When cooked, the pesticides are transformed into less-harmful molecules.
  • If tropical foods such as avocado, kiwi, bananas, coconut, pineapple, grapefruit and papaya don’t grow in your climate (in Greater Boston e.g.), eating them often is weakening. These are grown in tropical (warmer and wetter) climates. In the winter, it’s a more pronounced difference.
  • Raw foods are often unwashed. Please wash thoroughly to remove bacteria, pesticide residues, etc.

Baby Steps

Tempted by a cleaner lifestyle? Awesome. You will enjoy life more and live longer, and reduce suffering.

nicewintermeal

Here are a few things to try:

  1. Body Rubs Daily
  2. A pickle after each meal (real pickles have no vinegar, colors, sugar)
  3. Boiled brown rice, millet, quinoa or barley (no gluten!)
  4. Steamed or stir-fried veggies with tofu (The Bridge, available at Whole Foods!)
  5. Affirmations, chanting or meditation even five minutes per day
