A Healthy Late Summer Meal

milletcornloaf

What a beautiful summer in New England!

Have you noticed the weather is changing? The mornings and evenings are much cooler now, and this is our cue to adjust our eating to eliminate the excess water from our bodies.

This water comes from a steady stream of yin (expanding/cooling) foods, such as:

  • Alcohol
  • Raw Food
  • Tropical Food
  • Fruit
  • Fruit Juice
  • Soda
  • Sugar
  • Nightshade Veggies (tomato, potato, eggplant, pepper, etc.)

Ease off the above foods, and start adding foods like:

  1. Millet
  2. Short Grain Brown Rice
  3. Sea Vegetables
  4. Winter Squash
  5. Cooked Vegetable Dishes
  6. Blanched or Pressed Salads
  7. Miso Soup
  8. Boiled Beans

The millet is especially good to help eliminate the excess water from our bodies, and can relieve any symptoms you are feeling, such as fatigue, headaches, damp palms, and short attention span. It will also clear out your throat, sinuses, ears and skin.

Here’s a great meal idea for late August or early September:

  • Miso Soup w/ Shiitakes, Kale, Scallions & TurnipBoiled Millet w/ Corn & Squash
  • Millet Loaf with Corn & Carrots
  • Pressure Cooked Brown Rice w/ Black beans
  • Stir-fried Cauliflower, Broccoli, Onion & Tofu
  • Mashed Sweet Potato, Zucchini and Carrot
  • Blanched Cucumber Slices w/ Mustard & Ginger Dressing

The above meal is beautiful, tasty, and extremely healthy because:

  1. It’s vegan. Animal protein promotes heart disease, cancer, stroke and Alzheimers
  2. It’s low-glycemic, so your energy won’t crash and you will guard against diabetes
  3. It’s low-fat, low sodium and high in vitamins, minerals and cancer-fighting anti-oxidents

Please make sure your ingredients are organic when available, for health and environment.

Ask me for the recipe at david@kagan.co. I will also cook it and deliver it to you if desired.

Chew well, and then go for a nice walk. Enjoy!

Causes of Breast Cancer? Dairy, Sugar, Yeast, Chicken Top The List

Got a call from the Breast Cancer Society today. They wanted money for women with breast cancer, and for research to end Breast Cancer. I did not give them any.

But I did give them an earful of what is now well established in the world: Breast cancer cannot happen if you do the following:

  1. Avoid all dairy
  2. Avoid all sugar, including fruit juice, artificial sweeteners, tropical foods, etc.
  3. Avoid chicken (homocysteine)
  4. Avoid yeast (cancer loves yeast); prevalent mainly in bread and other baked goods
  5. Avoid toxins such as nail polish, hair dye, diesel
  6. Avoid pesticides from the lawn and from conventionally grown foods
  7. Avoid hormones, in GMO soy, birth control pills, hormone therapy, or plastics
  8. Have a child before age 35, and breast feed. It offers physical and emotional gifts
  9. Be selfish!. Don’t remain quiet for the good of your parents, siblings, mate and children
  10. Do body rubs, take nature walks, and keep a clean (without chemicals!) home

Levels of Healing

thefoodyoueat

We all have different health profiles, lives, and desires, and we should be able to choose our diet, of course. What bothers me is that most people don’t know how to eat healthy, and they do not realize the dangers in the food in our country.

If you are not willing to learn, and do the work, and you trust your doctor, then you are dismissed from this web page! But if you are looking for more health, and you have the time and budget to find it, keep reading.

Here are 10 things you can do to heal your chronic health problems, if you are willing to make the effort. Most of them include food, but some are lifestyle and environmental changes.

  1. Get a shower filter for chlorine, and a 2-stage drinking water filter for sediment/flouride
  2. Stop using pesticides on your lawn, as well as gas mowers/blowers/snow throwers, etc.
  3. Buy organic meat, cheese, greens & fruit. Buy organic underwear and sheets
  4. Put a dust-mite-proof slipcase over your mattress and pillow, clean your heating ducts and put in better filters in your home and in your car
  5. Put more green plants in your home, in bedrooms and the kitchen especially
  6. Eat home-soaked and cooked brown rice every day. Eat millet and barley weekly
  7. Chew your food well, and eat sitting down, while relaxing, not reading, working, etc.
  8. Eliminate table salt, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, MSG, nitrites, nitrates, food colorings, etc., by reading labels and buying natural alternatives
  9. Add sea vegetables, radishes, carrots, kale or collard greens, broccoli or cauliflower, winter squash and onions, turnips and mushrooms, as well as beans, and miso
  10. Eat much less meat, dairy, sugar, dry foods, sodium, and only drink water, carrot juice, twig tea, hot apple juice, and Sweet Vegetable Drink

If you try these (ask me for support!) for six months, I guarantee you will have great results. Healing may look like more symptoms, but that is the detoxing. Stick with it!

David’s Organic Cole Slaw

It’s the middle of summer, and living is easy. Therefore we do NOT need any animal foods to stress out our bodies. Today’s lunch consisted of:

  • Brown rice on nori w/vegenaise, ume paste, pea sprouts & gomashio
  • David’s Organic Cole Slaw (different every time, recipe below)
  • Steamed radish greens, turnip greens, scallions and kale

We might have needed a more powerful lunch if we were about to scale a mountain, but we are sitting around the house, playing cards, doing correspondence, and getting ready for the work week.

Curing Leukemia, Without Pills Or Chemotherapy

leukemia

Leukemia sucks. It took my uncle Harvey and my aunt Ellie, in the last two years alone. And one of my earliest memories was in fourth grade when Karen Yabachio die of leukemia.

They say we are doing well in fighting cancer, and for a few cancers, that may be true. Prostate, some breast, some liver and colon benefit from arlier testing and improved treatment I’m hearing. But not enough, considering the billions being spent, and the millions dying.

Here’s an idea:

Figure out that there are only two things that cause cancer:

  1. Bad eating over a long period of time
  2. Environmental toxins

Both of these can be fixed by proper eating for a good while. It’s been proven over and over with Macrobiotics.

I now have a friend with Leukemia, and she has a chance, if she leaves the pills behind, and really takes the natural diet and lifestyle seriously. I’m rooting for her.

Milk…Cheese…Cow Hormones…Breast Cancer

Came across this article again after several years, perhaps it can help someone who is eating more cheese than they should, and fits the profile.

A New Type of Breast Cancer

A few days ago, I received his warning from a reader:

Please pass this on to the women you know.
It may save a life. Subject: New Kind of Breast Cancer

In November, a rare kind of breast cancer was found. A lady
developed a rash on her breast, similar to that of young
mothers who are nursing…Paget’s Disease…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Actually, my reader’s warning was not new information to
me or to Notmilk readers. Ninety-seven percent of women
diagnosed with Paget’s Disease are diagnosed with invasive
ductal carcinoma. I first reported this more than five years
ago in the Notmilk column of April 2, 2003.
That column:
New Breast Cancer Terror
There is a type of breast cancer that was once
considered to be extremely rare, invasive lobular
carcinoma.
A new study, published in the current issue of the
Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA 2003;
289:1421-4), reveals that rates of this breast cancer
jumped from 9.5% of all breast cancers to 15.6% in just
a 12-year period (from 1987 to 1999). This study was
based upon the analyses of 190,000 cases of breast cancer.
While most breast cancers are first detected as “lumps”
through self examination, this cancer is quite different.
Invasive lobular carcinoma begins inside of mammary
ducts. A related commentary in the current issue of the
British Medical Journal reveals:
“In the classic form of the cancer the tumour cells are
arranged in single file or strands infiltrating the breast
stroma. So, unlike the more common type of breast cancer
that develops as lumps, this type grows as sheets of cancerous
cells, making it more difficult to detect by physical
examinations and mammography. Clinically it tends to present
as distortion of the breast contour.”
For every breast cancer scientist, there seems to be a
different theory. There is one thing with which all
researchers agree. Breast cancer is about hormones.
Something triggers a series of yet-to-be understood
hormonal events.
Something happened to cause this dangerously lethal trend.
Why such an increase? What event is affecting women
differently in 1999 that was not affecting them in 1987?
Women have been eating increased levels of concentrated
dairy products. Each bite of cheese contains steroid
hormones. In his landmark book, Don’t Drink Your Milk,
Frank Oski, MD (once the director of Pediatrics at Johns
Hopkins Hospital) wrote:
“About 80 percent of cows that are giving milk are
pregnant and are throwing off hormones continuously.
Progesterone breaks down into androgens…”
Pregant cows also produce hormones which instruct their
own mammary tissues to grow. It should be no surprise that
progesterone, prolactin, oxytocin, melatonin, and estrogen
exert unusual effects upon humans who ingest bovine
steroid hormones. In 1970, the average American consumed
just ten pounds of cheese. By 1999, the average American
was consuming 30 pounds of cheese. Ten pounds of milk
are required to produce one pound of hard cheese. Could
this be the missing link to understanding the dramatic
increase in the rate of invasive lobular carcinoma?
Post-menopausal women are not supposed to be producing
milk. Hormonal messages to do so are contrary to a
woman’s physiology. The inappropriate presense of
lactation hormones may very well be cause for the
emerging invasive lobular carcinoma explosion.
Although the genetically engineered bovine growth hormone
was not approved until 1994, millions of pounds of milk from
test herds entered America’s milk supply as early as 1989.
New York. Miami. Pennsylvania. Genetically engineered milk
contains increased amounts of insulin-like growth factor,
the hormone identified as a key factor in the growth of
every breast cancer. For more infomation:
http://www.notmilk.com/b.html
An increase in the consumption of concentrated hormone-rich
dairy products coupled with America’s first Frankenfood,
genetically engineered milk, may lead to the conclusion
that ‘Got milk’ is responsible for ‘Got Cancer.’
Just Saw Dallas Buyer’s Club
dallasbuyersclub1
Yeah, I’m a little behind the times.
I’m impressed with DBC not only because of the dieting and acting by Mconaughey and Leto, but also by the commitment to show the FDA, IRS and big Pharma in their true light.
We all need to realize that authorities like this will stop at nothing to control innovation and keep it from the people, unless they get the money. On the flip side, they will subject us to death and destruction, from such big hits as microwaves, chemotherapy, immunizations, GMO, Mad Cow Disease and dairy foods.
What can you do to prevent your family from being affected by these poisons and plots by government and big business? Here is a list:
  1. Eat real food (boiled whole grains, organic produce, beans, etc.)
  2. Avoid animal foods, salt, sugar and chemicals, as well as enriched, GMO, white or refined foods
  3. Do not take any medicine unless you have to. I’m talking even aspirin or allergy meds, or especially antibiotics. There are natural methods for all this stuff. Do your research.
  4. Spend time outside in nature, and do body rubs daily to prevent tick bites etc.
  5. Avoid diesel, coal, gas, and other toxic fumes, even from household cleansers or perfumes etc.
Perfect Summer Breakfast
turning_50_feeling_30_hooded_sweatshirt
Went to a party last night for an old friend’s 50th birthday. He is looking good, and his new house is wonderful, as was the company.
One thing that struck me was how old everyone looked. I guess 50 is on the back nine, but I also heard a lot of talk about cancer, hip and shoulder surgery, arthritis, etc.
Maybe I’m just lucky, but I can’t help but believe that my mostly vegan, mostly balanced eating and lifestyle has helped me steer clear of ANY DIAGNOSED HEALTH PROBLEMS, at age 49.5. I certainly am grateful, and I celebrated this morning with a nice nature walk, a wonderful breakfast, and a nice bike ride along the aqueduct and side roads in Framingham. Here is what I ate:
  • Fresh Organic Carrot Ginger Miso Soup With Turnip & Mustard Greens
  • Boiled Sweet Rice w/ Earth Balance & Tekka Condiment
  • Boiled Daikon With Frozen Corn
  • A Real Pickle (no vinegar, sugar, artificial preservatives or colors)
A breakfast like this takes about a half hour to make, and is not only delicious, but also incredibly satisfying, and healthful.
breastcanceranimal
The nutrients in the soup are great at fighting cancer, and joint problems, as well as strengthens the heart.  The rice is hearty, and helps improve digestion, while adding protein. The boiled daikon (a white japanese radish, found at whole foods, and ethnic grocers) and corn helps to relax us and also digest animal proteins (such as cheese and pork!) from past meals. The pickle activates the gallbladder, which starts digestion.
I don’t need another meal until lunch.
If anyone would like:
  1. Delivery of a meal like this
  2. Catering of a party with food like this
  3. Cooking classes
  4. Coaching on a healthier diet and lifestyle for better health
  5. Lecture on how to balance food and lifestyle to heal any health problem
Does Organic Really Matter?
cancerprice
Generally YES. However, nothing in life is simple, where there are humans involved.
It is true that you cannot always believe something is organic, that is, grown without hormones, pesticides, hybridization, antibiotics, etc. In addition, sometimes organic is meaningless, for instance, seaweed, or metal. Finally, organic can be EXPENSIVE. We all need to decide based on our wallets and our hearts.
But here are a few items that make sense to buy organic, for health and environment:
Animal foods: beef, pork, poultry, cheese, milk, ice cream, etc. They are much better when organic, for animals, the planet, and our health.
Greens: lettuce, collards, kale, broccoli, etc. They are much better when organic, for animals, the planet, and our health.
Fruits: apples, berries, etc. They are much better when organic, for animals, the planet, and our health.
Thanks for reading. There is a lot more information and organizations out there for you on organics.
