An End to Bullying

Happy Spring!!

We’ve been hearing a lot of better news about the economy, including some new jobs, and of course the stock market is inching its way up steadily. But what has changed really? Until people change the way they treat each other, we’ll still have big problems.

One nagging issue is bullying. It starts in some elementary schools, and is rampant in middle schools and beyond. Kids tease, exclude, verbally abuse and even assault each other, mainly as a result of their own stress and insecurity. Until recently, most of the press has been letters to the editor and discussion about making the bullies pay for their crimes. Sounds like the same old parochial mentality that has our jails full and our society running scared.

But yesterday in G, I heard about a non-profit, started by a name I recognized–Peter Yarrow, from Peter, Paul & Mary. His nonprofit, Operation Respect, seems to have the right idea.

Tonight, there is an event in Norwood, at which Peter Yarrow will speak and perform. I hope you will check it out and consider attending. For more information, click here.

After all, the future starts with our kids, and with the stress they are under in today’s world, we can only expect a harsh future, unless we get personally involved.
